Basketball Recap: Layla Lesure's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Plainfield South over Sycamore

If Plainfield South was riding high fresh off their 64-23 takedown of Plainfield East last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars took a 53-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sycamore Spartans on Thursday.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Layla Lesure, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Lesure has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of La'Niya Willis, who shot 46% from the field to rack up 15 points and four steals.

Plainfield South's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Sycamore, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.

Plainfield South and Kaneland will compete for holiday cheer at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Knights will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. Sycamore will take on Dixon in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Dukes & Duchesses' defense has only allowed 28.1 points per game this season, so the Spartans' offense will have their work cut out for them.
