It's playoff time, and Biddeford had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Thornton Academy Trojans on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Gavin Haggett made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May.
Haggett wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Sirois, who went 1-for-4 with one run.
Biddeford's record now sits at 15-4. As for Thornton Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 14-5-1.
Looking ahead, Biddeford will challenge Mt. Ararat at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last five games the Eagles have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Thornton Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
