The Muncy Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Montgomery Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Muncy will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Columbia Montour Vo-Tech on Friday. The Indians blew past the Rams 20-4. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Chevelle Bauman was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. Bauman was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Muncy let Leah Vest and Taylor Shannon run wild. Vest went 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Shannon went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those doubles marked the first that Vest has hit this season. Jailyn Baker was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Muncy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbia Montour Vo-Tech only posted a batting average of .250.
Meanwhile, Montgomery put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by an 18-4 margin over Benton. The result was nothing new for the Red Raiders, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Chloe Gordner and Madisyn Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Gordner got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs and three RBI, while Miller went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Cali Barnes, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.
Montgomery pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 17.0 runs this season. As for Muncy, their record now sits at 2-4.
Muncy suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Montgomery in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
