Baldwyn moved up to 185 from 211 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A Region 1. A 46-7 win over South Pontotoc helped the Bearcats improve their standing.
Baldwyn was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, Michael Gray's team defeated the Cougars 46-7.
Bruce's dynamic duo of Davis Brown and Donta Armstrong proved tough for Houston to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brown threw for 226 yards and one touchdown and Armstrong had 84 yards receiving. Jay Johnson helped Bruce's passing attack out by catching two balls for 68 yards.
Cody Edge made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Bearcats beat South Pontotoc. The 5-foot-10 senior forced one fumble and racked up two sacks.
Bradley Boose was the most productive running back in the league this week. In eight carries, he ran for 125 yards as Baldwyn lost to the Hilltoppers. Laquintez Upshaw also contributed to the rushing game with 64 yards on the ground.
Bruce's Brown and Shaq Bush have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A Region 1 in both passing and receiving yards. Brown has thrown for 1033 yards this season, while Bush, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 20 catches for 291 yards. Calhoun City's Chakel Gates leads the league in rushing yards with 429.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Wildcats take on the Bearcats. Calhoun City is currently in second, while Baldwyn is in third.
Walnut and Hamilton played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Walnut eventually emerging with a 6-0 victory.
