Math Civics & Sciences has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Overbrook Panthers at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Math Civics & Sciences posted their biggest win yet this season on Tuesday. They blew past Mastery Charter North - Pickett 75-54. Given Math Civics & Sciences' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Mastery Charter North - Pickett is ranked 502nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aiden Brown and Milak Myatt were among the main playmakers for Math Civics & Sciences as the former scored ten points along with nine rebounds and six assists and the latter scored 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Sair Alsbrooks, who scored 15 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Meanwhile, even though Mastery Charter North - Pickett scored an imposing 61 points on Saturday, Overbrook still came out on top. Overbrook strolled past Mastery Charter North - Pickett with points to spare, taking the game 76-61.
Overbrook got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Omar Davis out in front who scored 18 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Davis is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Shafir Hall, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Math Civics & Sciences pushed their record up to 11-6 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Overbrook, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Math Civics & Sciences have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Overbrook struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Math Civics & Sciences strolled past Overbrook in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 79-60. The rematch might be a little tougher for Math Civics & Sciences since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
