The Cyprus Pirates won the last time they faced the Taylorsville Warriors, and things went their way on Friday too. Cyprus enjoyed a cozy 52-38 win over Taylorsville. The win made it back-to-back wins for Cyprus.
Cyprus was led to victory by Veanna Pau'u and Amelia Echternkamp. Pau'u scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks, while Echternkamp scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Echternkamp continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sela Ama, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Taylorsville's loss came despite strong showings from Aysha Salami and Kaitlyn Sterzer. Salami dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds, while Sterzer scored nine points along with six rebounds. Salami hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Janelle Zapata, who scored six points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Taylorsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 29 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Cyprus now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Taylorsville, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cyprus will challenge Bonneville at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Bonneville has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 9. As for Taylorsville, they will head out on the road to face off against Granger at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Granger is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
