Softball Recap: Highland Prep Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Highland Prep had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Leading Edge Academy - GEC Spartans as they made off with an 18-10 win. The Honey Badgers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Spartans, too.

Sydney Mikkelson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haley Miller, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aneyka Angulo, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Highland Prep hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leading Edge Academy - GEC struck out seven times.

Highland Prep's record is now 3-1. As for Leading Edge Academy - GEC, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Highland Prep will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Chino Valley at 3:45 p.m. on March 19th. As for Leading Edge Academy - GEC, they will take on St. Augustine Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
