Softball Recap: Ovid-Elsie Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Ovid-Elsie had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They never let the Fulton Pirates get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Thursday. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Marauders yet this season.

Mercades Grieder made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Grieder was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Haley McClung was incredible, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Jamie Houska was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Ovid-Elsie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Ovid-Elsie's win bumped their record up to 4-11-1. As for Fulton, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Ovid-Elsie and Fulton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Marauders (ranked 386th) will meet Lakeville (ranked 99th) at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Fulton will face off against Perry at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (439 vs. 91).
