Santee is 1-9 against St. Mary since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Santee Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the St. Mary's Cardinals. Hopefully Santee focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Friday.
Santee scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They really took it to St. Edward for the full four quarters, racking up a 78-15 victory on the road. With that victory, Santee brought their scoring average up to 51.7 points per game.
Santee found their leader in underclassman Miley Pike, who almost dropped a triple-double on 34 points, ten rebounds, and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pike has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aubrinee Tuttle, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
St. Mary's posted their closest win yet this season last Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past McCool Junction 41-39. The win made it back-to-back wins for St. Mary's.
Mya Hedstrom was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Hedstrom is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Lorissa Reiman was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds.
Santee's record now sits at 5-6. St. Mary's record is now 9-2.
Tuesday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Pike and Hedstrom. Pike has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 21.2 points, 2.1 steals, and 5.4 rebounds. For her part, Hedstrom has averaged 18.3 points, 5.7 steals, and 7.5 rebounds.
Santee was taken down by St. Mary's 64-25 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Santee avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
