Two dominant backs in Kevon Rivera and Markellis "kj" Asbury are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hanahan Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Philip Simmons Iron Horses at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Hanahan fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Battery Creek 49-13 on the road. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Hanahan had established a 28 point advantage.
Rivera had a dynamite game for Hanahan, rushing for 242 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. Rivera is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Landon Gomes did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Philip Simmons put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their undefeated season alive. They claimed a resounding 43-0 victory over North Charleston on the road. The result was nothing new for Philip Simmons, who have now won seven matches by 24 points or more so far this season.
Philip Simmons' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sharod Williams, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolten Kellermann, who picked up 48 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Hanahan to 4-4 and Philip Simmons to 8-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Hanahan has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 194.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Philip Simmons struggles in that department as they've been even better at 345 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Hanahan might still be hurting after the 22-0 loss they got from Philip Simmons in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Hanahan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
