Nitro snuck past Scott with a 28-24 win. The win was all the more spectacular given Nitro's disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Scott is ranked tenth).
Josh Moody continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 270 yards and four touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Eli Littlejohn, who gained 140 total yards.
When it comes to explaining why Scott lost, one person who can't be blamed is Preston Cooper. Despite the final result, he rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown. Another big playmaker for Scott was Carson Brinegar, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Nitro's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Scott, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-1.
Nitro will head out on the road to face off against Scott at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Matt Frye and Moody. As for Scott, they will be playing at home against Nitro at 1:30 p.m.
