Spring Creek hasn't had much luck against Truckee recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Wolverines at 1:00 p.m.
Spring Creek is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Elko, who was ranked sixth at the time (Spring Creek was ranked 15th). The Spartans fell 28-20 to the Indians on Friday.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was McCoy McArtor, who rushed for 131 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 13 yards and one TD. He has become a key player for Spring Creek: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-3 otherwise. The Spartans also got a significant boost from Landon Boyle, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 102 yards.
Meanwhile, Truckee waltzed into their contest on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Vikings 42-14. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Wolverines just coasted through the last quarter.
Spring Creek better keep an eye on Sam Kuntz. He was instrumental in Truckee's win, rushing for 163 yards and four scores on only 12 carries. Seth Molt also helped out as he racked up 108 rushing yards.
Truckee was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 390 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 301 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.
One reason for the win was Truckee's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Lukas Andrew with three.
Spring Creek's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Truckee, their record is now 8-2.
Saturday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Spring Creek has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 180 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Truckee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 323.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Spring Creek came up short against Truckee in their previous meeting back in September, falling 22-14. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Wolverines' Ivan Esparza, who rushed for 195 yards and one touchdown. Now that the Spartans know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
