The Millard South Patriots will be taking part in a tournament against the Creighton Prep Junior Jays at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Millard South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Millard South is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Elkhorn South, who was ranked 11th at the time (Millard South was ranked third). The Patriots fell 7-4 to the Storm on Thursday. The Patriots' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Tyler Albert was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, Jaxson Appuhn was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Creighton Prep's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Papillion-LaVista South by a score of 6-5.
Cal Anthony and Braden Caito stepped up to the plate in a big way. Anthony went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Caito went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Logan Burchfiel was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Millard South's defeat dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Creighton Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 15-12.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Millard South has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Creighton Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
