The Menasha Bluejays will challenge the Shawano Community Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Menasha has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with six straight defeats, while Shawano Community will come in with three straight wins.
Menasha came up short against Neenah on Saturday, falling 13-4.
Menasha saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trevor DeBriyn, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Jake Osentoski also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Shawano Community got themselves on the board against Waupaca on Monday, but Waupaca never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Comets.
Jerzy Brocker made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Brocker was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Pete Bruette was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Crew Weisnicht, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Shawano Community always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waupaca only posted an OBP of .333.
Shawano Community pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Menasha, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Menasha has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Shawano Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Menasha took their victory against Shawano Community in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Bluejays have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
