The Sanderson Spartans will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Broughton Capitals at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Sanderson's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 59-33 walloping at the hands of Athens Drive. Sanderson found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 31 to 7 on offense.
Despite the defeat, Sanderson got a solid performance out of Summer Haith, who scored 16 points. That was a full 48.5% of Sanderson's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Hannah Sayre was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Broughton was the victim of a tough 55-35 loss at the hands of Cardinal Gibbons on Tuesday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Broughton in their matchups with Cardinal Gibbons: they've now lost eight in a row.
Sanderson has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season. As for Broughton, their loss dropped their record down to 9-12.
Sanderson suffered a grim 55-30 defeat to Broughton in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Broughton's Kalajah Wright, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Now that Sanderson knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
