Providence is 7-2 against Polytechnic since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pioneers will host the Panthers at 3:15 p.m. Providence is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
Providence lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Mayfield, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's game. The Pioneers put the hurt on the Cubs with a sharp 11-4 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Madelynn Watts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mia Allinson and Gloria Galindo did most of the damage at the plate: Allinson went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Galindo went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Allinson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evangelina Aleman, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Providence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Polytechnic lost 14-4 to Flintridge Sacred Heart on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Tologs: they've now lost five in a row.
Brynn Connolly made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Eila Chan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Providence's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Polytechnic, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Providence hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Polytechnic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Providence's way against Polytechnic in their previous meeting on Thursday, as Providence made off with an 18-5 victory. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
