West Chicago hasn't had much luck against Glenbard North recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as West Chicago comes in on four and Glenbard North on five.
It was a proper cat-fight when West Chicago took on Wheaton-Warrenville South on Friday. The Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 1-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since May 17, 2024.
West Chicago saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brielle Borner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Glenbard North). They blew past Hinsdale South 12-2 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three matches by nine runs or more so far this season.
Avery Miller spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tru Medina, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Abderhalden, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Glenbard North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
West Chicago's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Glenbard North, their record is now 5-0.
West Chicago might still be hurting after the 12-3 defeat they got from Glenbard North in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
