The Biggs Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Weed Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Biggs walked away with it. They took their contest at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 35-6 victory over Modoc. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Biggs had established a 22 point advantage.
Among those leading the charge was Zach Smith, who rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Brody Hudson was in the mix as well, providing Biggs with two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Biggs' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for nine sacks. It was a group effort, with three guys contributing.
Meanwhile, Weed got the win against Maxwell two weeks ago by a conclusive 50-30. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Weed.
Dj Horton was his usual excellent self, rushing for 287 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 15.1 yards per carry, and also throwing for 73 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Horton was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards. Marcus Horton was another key contributor, gaining 116 total yards and a touchdown.
The win (which was Biggs' third in a row) raised their record to 8-3. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 40.33 points. As for Weed, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Biggs has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 333.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Weed struggles in that department as they've been averaging 304.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
