Saguaro is a perfect 5-0 against ALA - Queen Creek since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Saguaro Sabercats will take on the ALA - Queen Creek Patriots at 3:45 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Saguaro picked up another tournament win on Wednesday. They came out on top against Sunrise Mountain by a score of 5-1.
Dario LoBianco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kasen Williams was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Zander Bratspis also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, ALA - Queen Creek is still undefeated this season after their matchup against Higley on Saturday, but Higley came as close as anyone has to beating them. ALA - Queen Creek sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Higley. The five-run effort marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Juan Pablo Altamirano made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Altamirano was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Seth Nielson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Tayden Brewer, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
ALA - Queen Creek's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Saguaro, they now have a winning record of 6-5-1.
Saguaro skirted past ALA - Queen Creek 1-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Saguaro since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
