Basketball Recap: Blacksburg Gets the Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Blacksburg duked it out withYork on Friday. The Blacksburg Wildcats snuck past the York Cougars with a 56-51 win. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 55-50 loss the last time these two teams met.

Blacksburg had a senior duo take command as Saad Lavender went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points and Cameron Cobb dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Cobb is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jd Bonner, who posted seven points.

Blacksburg was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why York lost, don't look at Alex Mcilwain. Despite the final result, he shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Lowery, who had nine points and six rebounds.

Blacksburg is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points per game. As for York, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Blacksburg didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-42 defeat against Nation Ford on the 28th. As for York, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 81-43 loss against Collins Hill on the 28th.
