Baseball Recap: Desert Heights Prep Has No Trouble Against Maryvale Prep

While Desert Heights Prep put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Maryvale Prep. The Yote blew past the Matador 14-0. The result was nothing new for the Yote, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Oziel Gonzalez Jr made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Jesse Aguon was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cadyn Longoria, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Desert Heights Prep is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 10-2-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Maryvale Prep, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Desert Heights Prep will take on Valley Lutheran at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Flames have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.7 runs per game on average), something the Yote will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Maryvale Prep, they will head out on the road to take on Anthem Prep at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.31 runs per game on average), something the Matador will no doubt try to take advantage of.
