Penasco hasn't had much luck on the road recently (they'd lost four straight ) but thanks in part to Rochelle Lopez that streak is no more. The Panthers came out on top against the Dulce Hawks by a score of 40-28 on Saturday with plenty of help from Lopez, who went 7-for-12 on her way to 18 points and four blocks. Her big performance that morning made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points.
The team also got some help courtesy of Adelita Trujillo, who posted nine points and five rebounds. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Emma Martinez-Pierce and Jayanna Petago certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Martinez-Pierce put up 12 points in addition to seven boards and three steals, while Petago earned seven points along with five rebounds and three steals. Martinez-Pierce is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season.
The win got Penasco back to even at 7-7. As for Dulce, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Looking ahead, Penasco will take on Estancia at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Dulce, they will be taking part in a tournament against Aztec at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.
