Middleton is 2-7 against Madison since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Middleton Tigers will face off against the Madison Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Middleton is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Liberty Tech Magnet on Monday. Middleton put the hurt on Liberty Tech Magnet with a sharp 17-9 victory. The Tigers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Kamren Bumpus made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bumpus was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, William Cornelius and Milo Bolden did most of the damage at the plate: Cornelius scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Bolden scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Cornelius snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Lane Pitzer, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Madison and Greenfield meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. Madison was the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over Greenfield.
Like Middleton, Madison also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryker Stegall. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Stegall a new career-low in walks (one). He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Madison got a massive performance out of Garrett Clark, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave Clark a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicolas Udovich, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Madison now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Middleton, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-3.
Middleton might still be hurting after the 16-4 defeat they got from Madison when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Middleton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
