The Starkville Yellowjackets and the Murrah Mustangs will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Starkville will be looking to keep their ten-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Starkville put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. Everything went their way against Callaway as Starkville made off with a 62-36 win. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-14.
Starkville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zariyah Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Edwards has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Gay, who scored 20 points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Murrah's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Horn Lake by a score of 36-33. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Murrah has suffered yet this season.
Starkville's victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Murrah, their loss dropped their record down to 4-16.
Everything came up roses for Starkville against Murrah in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 61-31 win. Will Starkville repeat their success, or does Murrah have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
