The Christiansburg Blue Demons are taking a road trip to take on the Cave Spring Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Christiansburg didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top in a nail-biter against PikeView on Thursday, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Demons have posted since April 25, 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cave Spring). They skirted past William Byrd 12-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted against the Terriers since April 27, 2022.
Sam Urgo made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Urgo was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Oliver Ingram was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and two doubles. Joe Farwell was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Cave Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Christiansburg has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Cave Spring, they moved to 3-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Christiansburg couldn't quite get it done against Cave Spring in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Blue Demons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
