The Moreno Valley Vikings struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Valley View Eagles had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Moreno Valley took a hard 60-44 fall against Valley View. While losing is never fun, Moreno Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 728th, while Valley View is ranked 360th).
Despite the defeat, Moreno Valley had strong showings from Jamall Thompson, who scored 15 points, and Thomas Towers, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Towers pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Valley View found their leader in underclassman Charles Knight, who scored 21 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Knight has scored at least a third of Valley View's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenneth Hutchinson, who scored 13 points.
Moreno Valley now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Valley View, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season.
Moreno Valley won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Vista del Lago at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Vista del Lago is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Valley View, they will head out on the road to square off against Orange Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Orange Vista has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
