Softball Recap: West York Area Comes Up Short

West York Area was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Eastern York Golden Knights. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 7-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Maddie McGlynn was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Kayleigh Becker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addison Skimski, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Even though they lost, West York Area lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

West York Area's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. Eastern York has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, West York Area will be playing in front of their home fans against Susquehannock at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Eastern York, they will take on York Suburban at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. York Suburban has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.2 runs per game on average), something Eastern York will no doubt try to take advantage of.
