Pacific Grove has gone a perfect 3-0 against Rancho San Juan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Breakers will square off against the Trailblazers at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Grove is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
Pacific Grove came out on top against Monte Vista Christian on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Breakers never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Breakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Alex Giammanco made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Savannah Hardy and Isis Turner did most of the damage at the plate: Hardy got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Turner went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Kendra Pottharst was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Pacific Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rancho San Juan). Everything went their way against North Monterey County on Friday as they made off with a 15-1 win. The Trailblazers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 9, 2024 (when they won 19-0).
Like Pacific Grove, Rancho San Juan also got a great game from a two-way player: Chelsey Misner. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Misner was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Hernandez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Castillo, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base.
Pacific Grove's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Rancho San Juan, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-11.
Rancho San Juan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pacific Grove has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Rancho San Juan, though, as they've been averaging 10.8 hits. Given Pacific Grove's sizable advantage in that area, the Trailblazers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Pacific Grove took their win against Rancho San Juan in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Breakers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
