Basketball Recap: Mercedes Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Mercedes entered their tilt with Donna on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 52-42 win over the Redskins. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 56-18 back in January.

Mercedes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eric Lozoya led the charge by shooting 67% from the field en route to 16 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Juan Silva, who posted 11 points.

Mercedes' record now sits at 16-17. As for Donna, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 18 of their last 19 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-24 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mercedes will take on rival Weslaco East at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Donna is set to face off against their familiar foe Porter at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
