The Hillcrest Vikings had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.4 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They came out on top against City University School of Liberal Arts by a score of 67-56. Given Hillcrest's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the are ranked 283rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hillcrest had a senior duo take command as Mario Morgan dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds and Xavier Herron scored 20 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Herron hasn't dropped below six steals for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mario Jones, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
City University School of Liberal Arts' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Reliford, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Savion Anderson, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Hillcrest has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. As for City University School of Liberal Arts, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
Hillcrest will head out on the road to take on the Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Westwood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully the Vikings like a good challenge. As for City University School of Liberal Arts, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
