Cathedral Catholic is 8-1 against Point Loma since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Dons are taking a road trip to face off against the Pointers at 5:25 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cathedral Catholic 3.2, Point Loma 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Cathedral Catholic lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Otay Ranch, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's matchup. The Dons put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 8-1 win on Thursday.
Mimi Botticelli spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Ellie Davis was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Kaitlynn Hemmert also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, after a string of ten wins, Point Loma's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (5-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Annika Isaacson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Nanako Schroth was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Cathedral Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Point Loma, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-3-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Cathedral Catholic hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Point Loma struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Cathedral Catholic couldn't quite get it done against Point Loma in their previous meeting back in March of 2019 as they fell 11-6. Can the Dons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
