Towanda is 2-8 against Wellsboro since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Black Knights will be playing at home against the Hornets at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wellsboro will be up against a hot Towanda squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Black Knights were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over Mansfield on Tuesday.
Rylee Sluyter was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Gianni Assante was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wellsboro). Everything went their way against Coudersport on Saturday as they made off with an 18-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won four in a row.
Gabe Sprouse made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Wellsboro is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-6 otherwise. Sprouse was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marek Mascho, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Wellsboro: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Alec Magli, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Wellsboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .793. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Towanda pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Wellsboro, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
Towanda came up short against Wellsboro when the teams last played back in March, falling 9-5. Will the Black Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
