The Evergreen Cougars suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They were beaten by Ponderosa 67-29. While losing is never fun, Evergreen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Ponderosa is ranked 30th).
When it comes to explaining why Evergreen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Hayden Riddle. Despite the final result, he scored four points along with five rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Riddle grabbed two or more steals.
Carson Keach was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with nine steals and six rebounds for Ponderosa. Another player making a difference was Connor Miskovic, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Evergreen has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for Ponderosa, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evergreen will take on Alameda at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Alameda comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Ponderosa, Ponderosa and Regis Jesuit will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Allowing an average of 54.1 points per game, Regis Jesuit has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this match.
