The Sherrard Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Riverdale Rams at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Sherrard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Kewanee hit Sherrard with a five-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers fell 7-4 to the Boilermakers. The Tigers have struggled against the Boilermakers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Makenzy Moran was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Riverdale came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Golden Eagles. Considering the Rams have won 13 contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Danika Saddoris, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep Mercer County off the board.
At the plate, Breckin DeLaRosa was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and one double while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April. Brooklyn Peterson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Riverdale hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive games.
Sherrard's defeat dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Riverdale, their record now sits at 19-4.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sherrard has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. However, it's not like Riverdale struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sherrard couldn't quite finish off Riverdale in their previous meeting back in April and fell 10-8. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
