West Oso hasn't had much luck against Orange Grove recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bears will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are still undefeated after four games, but that won't be the case come Friday.
While West Oso didn't have the best season last year (they finished 0-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with an 18-8 win over Palacios on Friday.
West Oso can attribute much of their success to Ryan Guerrero, who rushed for 115 yards while picking up 7.2 yards per carry.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: West Oso was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 292 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 189 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Orange Grove hadn't done well against Edna recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bulldogs walked away with a 34-21 victory over the Cowboys.
Orange Grove found their leader in sophomore Daniel Bahn, who rushed for 238 yards and two TDs while picking up 13.2 yards per carry. Those 238 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Bahn. Linden Rodriguez was another key player, rushing for 112 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries.
Orange Grove didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Hughes Klatt and Orlando Carrillo.
Orange Grove's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for West Oso, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 4-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. West Oso has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 248.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Orange Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 250.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
West Oso was dealt a bruising 42-13 loss at the hands of Orange Grove in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Bears were down 28-7.
