The Hernando Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Lewisburg Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hernando's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Lewisburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Hernando's offense. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (2-0), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since February 27, 2024.
Kate Johnson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hernando saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Hodge, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Lewisburg got themselves on the board against Oxford on Tuesday, but Oxford never followed suit. They blew past the Chargers 15-0. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.
Lewisburg got a massive performance out of Anna Etter, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Etter has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Leona-Klaire Stokes, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Lewisburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Having lost for the first time this season, Hernando fell to 21-1. As for Lewisburg, their record is now 15-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Hernando hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lewisburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Hernando came up short against Lewisburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
