Baseball Game Preview: Berry Cardinals vs. Myers Park Mustangs

For the second straight game, Berry will face off against Myers Park. The Cardinals will welcome the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Berry has given up an average of 11.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Berry is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Myers Park on Tuesday. They came up short against the Mustangs, falling 16-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Cardinals in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost seven in a row.

For Myers Park's part, Thomas Jokinen looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Jokinen a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Myers Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berry only posted a batting average of .176.

The win was the fifth in a row for Myers Park, bringing their record up to 12-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Berry, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Berry has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Myers Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
