Weslaco East is a perfect 8-0 against Porter since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Weslaco East Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Porter Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Weslaco East 3.6, Porter 1.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Weslaco East barely beat Donna the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Weslaco East was the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over Donna on Friday. Considering the Wildcats have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubrey Zuniga and Elaine Hernandez made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Zuniga pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Hernandez tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Zuniga has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Zuniga scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Hernandez scored a run while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave Hernandez a new career-high.
In other batting news, Angelica Herrera was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. Aleydi Lopez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Weslaco East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Porter unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Pace by a score of 3-1. Cowboys fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Vikings since on Friday.
Mia Sosa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
The victory made it two in a row for Weslaco East and bumps their season record up to 9-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Porter, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.
Porter's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Weslaco East hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .416. It's a different story for Porter, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Weslaco East's hitters?
Everything went Weslaco East's way against Porter in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Weslaco East made off with a 14-0 win. Does Weslaco East have another victory up their sleeve, or will Porter turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
