The Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks entered their tilt with the Highland Springs Springers with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Norfolk Collegiate secured a 69-64 W over Highland Springs on Thursday. Given Norfolk Collegiate's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Highland Springs is ranked 200th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Norfolk Collegiate got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brennan Chatman out in front who scored 21 points. The contest was Chatman's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Khalil Caple, who scored 20 points.
Norfolk Collegiate's victory bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Highland Springs, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Norfolk Collegiate will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Manchester at 8:00 p.m. on December 29th. Manchester has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 638 points over their last nine matchups. Highland Springs will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Glen Allen at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Glen Allen knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Highland Springs likes a good challenge.
