In what's become a running theme this season, the Southern Durham Spartans gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Granville Central 77-25 at home. Winning may never get old, but Southern Durham sure is getting used to it with their ninth in a row.
Leading Southern Durham to victory were Briana Hughes and Ashlyn Hudson. Hughes scored 20 points along with five rebounds, while Hudson dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Hudson has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 11 times she's played. Aliyah Herndon was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Southern Durham has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Granville Central, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-15.
Southern Durham will look to defend their home court on Friday against South Granville at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Southern Durham's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home while South Granville has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Granville Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Vance County at 5:00 p.m. on February 7th. Granville Central comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
