Great Crossing will head out to face off against the Montgomery County Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Great Crossing put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. They never let Western Hills get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded Great Crossing with their most commanding win of the season.
Not much got past Kyleigh Harrison, who gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks to keep Western Hills off the board. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Harrison.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Sutton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Green, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Great Crossing was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Montgomery County had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ryleigh Martin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. In other batting news, Montgomery County got a massive performance out of Madison Cox, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Cox is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kinley Auxier, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Great Crossing now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Montgomery County, their record now sits at 8-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Great Crossing hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Montgomery County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
