The Fremont Eagles will square off against the Fort Wayne Canterbury Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Fremont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Fremont is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian 9-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Cayden Hufnagle made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, earning two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Colten Guthrie and Taylor Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Guthrie went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Guthrie has become a key player for Fremont: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-13 otherwise. Trace Handshoe was another key player, earning three runs and two stolen bases.
Fort Wayne Canterbury hadn't beaten Lakewood Park Christian on the road since April 23, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Cavaliers came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 6-3.
Like Fremont, Fort Wayne Canterbury also got a great game from a two-way player: Andrew Maloblocki. On the mound, Maloblocki tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Meanwhile, JP Rohwer tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Maloblocki went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI, while Rohwer went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Reed Hayes was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Fremont's record is now 16-13. As for Fort Wayne Canterbury, their record now sits at 11-8.
Fremont took their win against Fort Wayne Canterbury in their previous meeting back in May by a conclusive 15-4 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
