Poth has gone 7-1 against Stockdale recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Brahmas at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Poth comes in on five and Stockdale on three.
On Tuesday, Poth needed a bit of extra time to put away Goliad. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since March 7, 2025.
Poth saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Clark, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another was Major Luna, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Stockdale made easy work of Nixon-Smiley on Tuesday and carried off a 10-2 victory. Considering the Brahmas have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mason Almeida made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Stockdale is undefeated when Almeida allows one or fewer hits, but 6-14 otherwise. Almeida was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Trent Gordon was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. He is becoming a predictor of Stockdale's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-14 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Coy Gann, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Stockdale's win bumped their record up to 9-14. As for Poth, their victory bumped their record up to 17-6.
Everything went Poth's way against Stockdale when the teams last played back in March, as Poth made off with an 8-2 win. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Brahmas turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
