On Friday, The Hoxie Indians faced the Rawlins County Buffaloes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Hoxie snuck past Rawlins County with a 32-26 win. The victory was familiar territory for Hoxie who now have five in a row.
Duncan Bell was his usual excellent self, rushing for 33 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 189 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Mader, who picked up 79 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Rawlins County's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brayan Rodriguez, who picked up 172 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Sramek was another key contributor, rushing for 147 yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Rawlins County's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Dorian Culwell and his two sacks.
Hoxie's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.5 points per game. As for Rawlins County, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoxie will take on Bennington at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bennington will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Hoxie is ranked fifth). As for Rawlins County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
