After both having extra time off, the Dayton Dust Devils and the Sparks Railroaders will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Dayton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Monday.
After a string of four wins, Dayton's good fortune finally ran out. They fell 36-27 to Pershing County. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Dayton in their matchups with Pershing County: they've now lost nine in a row.
Dayton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ayisha Agee, who scored 6 points along with 3 blocks, and Kennidi Smith who scored 6 points along with 8 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sparks' game on Saturday was all tied up 12-12 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Coral Academy of Science - Reno by a score of 30-24 (the very same score they lost by the week prior).
Sparks found their leader in underclassman Bailey Hunden, who scored 12 points. Jacqueline Cabada was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Their wins bumped Dayton to 4-2 and Pershing County to 6-0.
Keep an eye on the arc in December 15th's match: Dayton have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 40.5% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Sparks, though, as they've only made 0% of theirs this season. Given Dayton's sizeable advantage in that area, Sparks will need to find a way to close that gap. Dayton took their victory against Sparks in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 43-18. Will Dayton repeat their success, or does Sparks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
