Monticello Empire League recap November 5, 2013
Vacaville extended the longest winning streak in Monticello Empire League this week by beating Rodriguez, 42-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Bulldogs.
Vintage moved up to 359 from 406 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Crushers climbed the ranks as a result of beating Wood 24-6.
Vacaville's dynamic duo of Chad Hekking and Tanner Donaldson proved to be unstoppable against the Mustangs, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hekking threw for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns and Donaldson had 92 yards receiving. Damonte Moore helped Vacaville's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 10 yards.
5-foot-9 quarterback Tyler Bailey of the Wildcats is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,597. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Austin Aaron. The Napa star has 38 catches for 743 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Wood takes on second place Vacaville. Last week, Wood fell to Vintage, while Mike Papadopoulos' team beat Rodriguez.
The Bulldogs' offense has racked up 309 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Carlos Meraz's team has allowed only 187 on the year.
There should be lots of points scored when Vacaville and the Wildcats face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Bulldogs comes in having scored 309 this season, while Wood has scored 285. Vacaville scored 42 points last week as it defeated Berwyn Hutcherson's team.
Napa took down Armijo 60-13 last week, the largest margin of any game.
