St. David is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Salome is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The St. David Tigers will take on the Salome Frogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. David had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 58-21 win over the Lions at home. Given St. David's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while North Valley Christian Academy is ranked 238th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Anissa Jacquez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 18 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Hart, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Salome at home against Duncan on Tuesday as the squad secured a 41-14 win.
Salome got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Grecia Leon out in front who scored 15 points along with four steals. Leon is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Brianna Thomas was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
St. David's win bumped their record up to 26-2. As for Salome, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-6 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: St. David have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 38.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Salome struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
St. David strolled past Salome when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 45-26. Will St. David repeat their success, or does Salome have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
