The Beechwood Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Simon Kenton Pioneers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Simon Kenton will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Beechwood extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Tigers put the hurt on Bracken County with a sharp 11-1 win. Beechwood got a great performance from Brant Stiles as he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those 11 strikeouts gave Stiles a new career-high.
At the plate, Tyler Fryman was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sawyer Carlisle, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Simon Kenton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They blew past Conner 12-5 on Thursday. The Pioneers haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Cash Hoard looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tyler Ruete was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Logan Judd was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Simon Kenton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Simon Kenton's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Beechwood, their record now sits at 13-5.
Beechwood took their win against Simon Kenton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
