Baseball Game Preview: St. Augustine Catholic Wolves vs. Benson Bobcats

St. Augustine Catholic is 0-6 against Benson since February of 2020 but things could change on Wednesday. The Wolves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, St. Augustine Catholic turned things around against San Miguel on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Vipers. With that win, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Owen Ernle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Augustine Catholic is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-12 otherwise. Ernle was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Gabriel Dominguez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Che Robles, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Benson never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Thatcher on Monday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 10-2 victory. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by eight runs or more this season.

Benson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for St. Augustine Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 4-13.
