The Maria Carrillo Pumas will head out on the road to square off against the San Rafael Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Maria Carrillo made easy work of Sonoma Valley and carried off a 10-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pumas.
Maria Carrillo got a great performance from Paige Richards as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Furthermore, Richards didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024.
On the hitting side, Olivia Weber was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Rachaely Yaya, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Maria Carrillo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sonoma Valley only posted a batting average of .208.
Meanwhile, San Rafael earned a 5-2 win over Las Lomas on Tuesday.
Thomara Drummer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Drummer was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Sophia Everett was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
Maria Carrillo's record now sits at 2-0. As for San Rafael, their record is now an identical 2-0.
Maria Carrillo came out on top in a nail-biter against San Rafael in their previous meeting back in March of 2020, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maria Carrillo since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
